From the statements of the cryptocurrency website CoinDesk<\/a> (its Bitcoin Price Index tracks prices from Bitcoin exchanges like Bitfinex, Bitstamp, Coinbase, and iBit), the price of Bitcoin was very volatile in 2013, especially in the last few months of the year. In the month of December alone, the value of Bitcoin saw a high of $1000 and a low of $600.<\/p>\n

An investment of $1000 at the time when the price was $600 would mean you owned 1 Bitcoin. If you bought $1000 worth of Bitcoin at $1000, you would have 1 Bitcoin.<\/p>\n

Based on this, 1 would now be worth over $6000. This value does not have any additional fees or transaction costs included.<\/p>\n

That's a huge profit to make in just a few years.<\/p>\n

If you had enough to invest in 2010, you could be in the company of First Bitcoin Billionaires - The Winklevoss Twins<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As bitcoin becomes more widely known, some of the biggest names in finance are stepping up. Fundstrat\u2019s Tom Lee and value investor Bill Miller have both welcomed the move.<\/p>\n

But despite the many success stories that have come from investing in bitcoin, seasoned investors are advising people to be cautious. Billionaire Mark Cuban and Warren Buffett have both warned about bitcoin\u2019s volatility. Prominent investor and index fund mogul Jack Bogle even told his audience to avoid bitcoin like the plague at a recent Council on Foreign Relations event.<\/p>\n

He goes on to say that bitcoin has no underlying rate of return and that bitcoin has nothing to back it except the investor's hope that they will sell it to someone at a higher value than they bought it for.<\/p>\n

While the biggest names in finance have stayed on the sidelines, others, such as best-selling author of \u201cMoney: Master the Game,\u201d Tony Robbins, have not taken a firm stance.<\/p>\n

Robins disse no \u201cFast Money\u201d da CNBC<\/a> that he believes bitcoin is very dubious and compared investing in it to going to Las Vegas.<\/p>\n

Robbins invested certain amounts of money in risky ventures, but he didn't count on them actually working out. He said he was just "investing for fun," knowing he could lose.<\/p>\n
